One Room Challenge – Dining Room Delight

One Room Challenge – Dining Room Delight

Hello and welcome to week 1 of the fall 2018 One Room Challenge.

If you are new to my blog, I’m so happy you’ve stopped by! I’m Jana Donohoe, an interior designer in Fayetteville, North Carolina and mom of 3 kiddos. I specialize in residential remodels and family friendly interiors.  This fall I will be participating in my 5th One Room Challenge as a guest participant.

The One Room Challenge is a bi-annual event where interior designers, bloggers and design enthusiasts participate in transforming a space of their choice and blog about it every week for 6 short weeks. Twenty featured designers share their progress every Wednesday and guest participants share every Thursday.

Here’s a look at my past ORC completed spaces. You can see my spring 2018 reveal here.

This fall I’ve decided to make over my formal dining room as my plan B option. I was originally going to re-design my family room for this Fall’s One Room Challenge, but when Hurricane Florence hit, I didn’t want to tie up my contractors I would need to do the job correctly, as I knew they were needed much more urgently in our area for rebuilding, so I decided to tackle my dining room instead, where the work is only cosmetic and something I can tackle.

My dining room is directly off of my foyer and hallway I did for the spring ORC so I will need to transition these spaces harmoniously.

I’m fresh off a plane from Europe (with a head cold) where I visited Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Liechenstein. So I’m still working out details for the dining room, be sure to see the plan next week. I was so inspired by the beautiful Swiss Alps! Expect to see some European influence in my dining room. 🙂

What comes to mind when you think of a formal dining room? Probably images of a stuffy room with seldom used furniture, right? It’s true we use our dining room a handful of times a year but I’m about to change that. I’m thinking a little more casual and a lot more comfortable with lots of splashes of color.

For fun, below are a couple pictures I took during my recent trip and some inspiration I will use to makeover my dining room.

    Jana,

I loved seeing the pictures of your trip and especially that one of Lichtenstein! It looks like you had a wonderful time there with your family.

I am looking forward to watching the progress on your dining room over the next 6 weeks of the #ORC as you transform it with a more casually tailored and colorful vibe!

Thank you Leslie! We had such a blast in Liechtenstein. A really beautifully tiny country filled with so much charm and energy.

You know I love color and can’t wait to fill my dining room with some much needed color and energy.
